Time to Diet?

O.k. It's not what you think, but rather I just found out I have gestational diabetes. Craziness! I don't have a history of it in my fam or anything. Jamie keeps joking that God knew the only way he was going to diet successfully is if I was having to do it too! .....HA!....HA!

I have been MIA because, well, this stuff takes some time to learn and do. Specific meal plans to figure out and coordinate for the entire fam, checking my glucose levels (pricking my finger) 4 times day at specific times and exercising 30 minutes a day.

This has made me very thankful for many things in my life. The main one being my awesome husband who committed to doing this with me (minus the finger pricking) for support. Seriously? I didn't deserve that, thanks babe! He is pretty happy right now because he has lost over 6 lbs in less than a week. Secondly, after 3 months of doing this we will be used to eating and living a healthier lifestyle. Great for us and our kiddos. Thirdly, assuming this all only lasts through pregnancy, I am so thankful for good health and have tremendous admiration for those of you who are diabetics.

The eating part is a pain to figure out what I can have, but I'm not starving and actually enjoying everything I am eating. We had already been used to whole grains and high protein eating, so that made it not quite as bad of a shock, but still I've been overwhelmed. Good news is my levels have all been in the normal range since I started, except that day I had a few sips of Mountain Dew. Oops, shoot me!

Did you know there are 10 teaspoons of sugar in a coke?

I am so proud of you and Jamie! Doing this together ... I know it is an adjustment and I am pleased he is doing it with you. I won't know what to have when you come now ... you will have to share with me when you have time. Matter a fact I told Randy that he needed to talk with you too as his glucose level was a bit high this last DR visit. It certainly won;t hurt me to go along with it to.
Love you!!
